The Law of Consequences

Every action has a consequence, some good, some less so, others of pure darkness...

I am delighted to have a short story in this fabulous anthology from writers linked to The Bestseller Experiment podcast. Including stories from award wining and bestselling authors this anthology explores the profound impact of the choices we make.

Step into a fantastical world where every choice reverberates with magic, shaping destinies in wondrous and terrifying ways…

My story is called, The Alchemist.

Curated by W.A. Leggatt, SC Gowland and G.M. White.

The Alchemist

Set in the same alternate Victorian England as my current work-in-progress (a young adult, steampunk, crime story with the working title, ‘Mage Asylum’), The Alchemist is a tale of the unimagined and unwanted consequences of our choices however well-intended those choices may have been.

Rasmus, a seasoned alchemist on the verge of the blessed obscurity that he so desires, is engulfed by people and problems when he chooses to heal a young boy mortally wounded in an explosion. One seemingly bad choice follows another as, against his better judgment, he accepts an apprentice into his care with unexpected and disastrous consequences.
